Holy Thursday.

I’m quite surprised with the way Catholics observe the Lenten Season nowadays. Way back my childhood years, I can still remember we were not allowed to play and go merrymaking specifically on Holy Thursdays and Good Fridays. We were even strictly hushed to muteness because as they say, Jesus is already suffering. Back then, businesses were closed, no regular TV and radio programming and shown were religious flicks and Lenten mass celebrations. On the roads were faithfuls doing the Bisita Iglesia.

Things seem different now. I turned on the TV this morning and saw that Tagalog flicks were shown. As I currently type now, they’re even showing a live stream of Pinoy Big Brother Season 2. On our way home to Frisco this noon, I noticed that there are some food chains with banners “Open during Holy Week”. FM radio stations seem to be on their normal programming, too.

Even though things may have changed, I just hope that we, Catholics, never forget the true meaning of Lent. That, amidst, our busy lives, may we take time to reflect on how we have been living and may we also acknowledge how Christ has sacrificed and suffered for us.

same sentiments here. ibang-iba na po talaga ngayon. dati nagpa-pasyon pa mga tao, pero ngayon, panay kasiyahan na lang & bakasyon. can't blame them din naman, ito lang yung panahon para mag-relax sila.

pero still, nakakalungkot pa rin ng sobra.

I am representing the manufacturer. In the manufacturing side, there is virtually no holiday in the sense that we have to produce more products, lalo na kung in the bull ang negosyo.

If I may add, your entry is some kind of an American mentality. Even NBA games are played on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Black Saturday.
